The redesign of supply planning for purchased parts focuses on reducing manual workload for purchase planners and improving the reliability of supplier commitments. This is achieved by replacing traditional MRP planning in ECC and S/4HANA with a new planning approach in IBP Order-Based Planning.
Manual effort is reduced through customized planning views, targeted alerts, and intelligent rescheduling proposals for existing purchase orders within IBP. More reliable supplier commitments are enabled by creating a stabilized purchase plan — a plan that remains consistent over time, with minimal week‑to‑week fluctuations. This stability is achieved by smartly decoupling production and procurement, ensuring that procurement signals are not overly sensitive to short-term production changes.
This controlled decoupling also provides a buffer for production, protecting it from disruptions in the supply of purchased parts.
